The Saw Franchise, known best for its truly gruesome traps, has a total 62 of them! Based purely on how difficult they are to escape; I’ve put together a ranking of what I believe to be Saw’s top five most brutal traps. (This list does not include any of the ‘rigged’ tests).

5. Death Mask (Saw II)

Saw II's Death Mask, also known as the Venus Flytrap, finds a man with a contraption attached to his neck. It is made up of two halves of a metal mask, each spiked with nails. The key to unlock the device has been surgically implanted behind the victim's eye. He finds a small knife...

4. Subway Trap (Spiral)

Spiral’s first trap displays a helpless detective, strung up by his tongue, held only by a chair in the middle of a subway tunnel. He must leap from the chair, tearing his tongue from his mouth, in order to safely avoid the train. We watch as he dangles in many unsettling close-up shots. The sound of the train intensifies.

3. Bathroom Trap (Saw I)

The trap that defined the franchise holds captive two victims, chained by their ankles in a disgusting bathroom. Between them lies a dead body, holding a gun in one hand, and a tape recorder in the other. Adam and Lawrence must find an escape before the clock strikes six, or they will face a terrible fate.

2. Reverse Bear Trap (Saw I, VI, 3D)

The Reverse Bear Trap is a head contraption designed to spring open, rather than clamp shut. It attaches to a victim's upper and lower jaw, and once triggered, will tear their mouth wide open. On avoiding this in Saw I, Amanda needs the key in the stomach of her "dead" cell mate.

1. Needle Pit (Saw II)

Shortly after a group of victims discover a pit of needles, Amanda is tossed into it. The others watch as she paws through hundreds of used needles in a desperate search for a key. With every movement, needles attach to her body, and she faces extreme physical and phycological pain (being a recovered drug addict).
