The Saw franchise, now with nine movies over seventeen years, is scattered with twists, turns, and timeline chaos. And if you aren't invested in Saw's lore, this might result in a confusing or even unenjoyable viewing experience. However, I'm here to help! Below is a list of the Saw movies in chronological order, which promises a logical timeline.

1. First Half of Jigsaw (2017) - Though one of the newer films to the franchise, Jigsaw foresees one of the very first games orchestrated by John Kramer, taking place before the events of Saw I.

2. Saw I (2004) - The original Saw movie acts as a “present day” movie; the films that follow centre around its timeline.

3. Saw II (2005) - This squeal takes place in an abandoned warehouse one year after the events of Saw I.

4. Saw III (2006) / Saw IV (2007) - In one of the most iconic twists of the franchise, both films are revealed to be taking place six months after the events of Saw II, their events overlapping.

5. Saw V (2008) - With Kramer dead, a ‘copycat killer’ starts a new murderous series of traps.

6. Saw VI (2009) - Taking place only a few days after the events of Saw V, Mark Hoffman starts a whole new game.

7. Saw 3D (2010) - Saw’s “Final Chapter” (spoiler: it’s not the final chapter) takes place just weeks after Saw VI.

8. Second Half of Jigsaw (2017) - Plot twist! The storyline of Jigsaw is actually taking place TEN years after Saw III.

9. Spiral (2021) - Spiral, the newest film to the franchise, takes place years after the previous Saw movies. It takes on a futuristic tone with completely separate storylines and characters.
